WATERLOO – Despite the light rain in Washington, D.C., members of the June 18 Honor Flight had a great day.

The flight, the seventh coordinated by Sullivan-Hartogh-Davis Post 730 of Waterloo, used the Baltimore-Washington International Airport this time.

Among the veterans were 10 from Buchanan County, including LaVerne Lentz and Harvey Love of Aurora; Bill Coulter, Karl Fricke, Bernie Haven, Howard Miller, Tex Pentecost and Don Sherrets of Independence; Gerald Amfar of Jesup; and Lloyd Bergfeld of Lamont. Many of their escorts were sons or daughters.

All but one of the Buchanan County veterans served in the Korean conflict. Harvey Love served in WWII and, at 96 years of age, was reported to be the oldest on the trip.

The next Honor flight is schedule for Tuesday, Sept. 17. Application forms (Veterans and Guardians) are available on-line at www.shdpost730waterloohonorflight.org or by contacting Sullivan-Hartogh-Davis Post 730, Waterloo Honor Flight, PO Box 182, Cedar Falls, IA 50613.
