FAIRBANK – The Wapsie Valley varsity softball team defeated Tripoli 14-4 in six innings on Thursday.

The Warriors scored at least one run in all six innings of play, with Tripoli unable to score until the fifth inning.

The game ended after six innings with Wapsie Valley scoring two runs in that inning to take a 10-run lead.

Freshman pitcher Ellie Neil (3-5) started the game for Wapsie Valley and went six innings with five strikeouts. She allowed three hits, no walks, no earned runs and had four unearned runs.

Wapsie Valley combined for 10 hits, six walks, 14 runs and five stolen bases. Second baseman Kennedi Neil had three hits, two runs and a double. Designated hitter Sydney Matthias had two hits, a run, two RBIs and a stolen base. Left fielder Sydnei Martin had a hit, a walk, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base.

Tripoli freshman Lauren Funk (1-7) was the losing pitcher in the contest. Tripoli now has a 1-7 record after their loss to Wapsie Valley.

Wapsie Valley improves to a 7-9 record after Thursday’s win against Tripoli. They played a road doubleheader against Hudson on Friday and host Sumner-Fredericksburg for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
