Area farms were among nearly 500 recognized at the 2019 Iowa State Fair as Century Farms and Heritage Farms.

The Century Farms program honors families who have owned their farm of at least 40 acres for 100 years or more. The program began in 1976 as part of the Bicentennial Celebration, when more than 5,000 certificates and farm markers were distributed across Iowa at local ceremonies. This year, 332 were recognized.

The Heritage Farm program recognizes ownership and operation of a farm of at least 40 acres by members of the same family for 150 years or more. This year 153 were honored.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship in conjunction with the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation operate the programs.

Photos from the State Fair were not available for Buchanan County's Keller Acres and Butterfield Residuary Trust Heritage Farms and the Century Farms in Fayette County of Dennis and Karen Franzen, which is outside West Union and was established in 1910, and Rober J and Dawn R.
