Postcard from the Past

This is a photograph of Rock Island Park that used to be located in the block where the Saur & Saur building, parking lot and car wash are now located. The photo is taken from East Charles looking south. The Rock Island rail line is next to the new trees planted on the west side of the park. Second Avenue Southeast borders the park on the east. The band shell was a popular place to gather for impromptu evening concerts. The Episcopal Church can be seen behind the bandstand.
