Cancer survivors invited to take first lap in Saturday Relay For Life

The 2018 cancer survivors proudly carried the Relay For Life banner around the track at Husky Stadium for the first lap of the day’s events.

Local cancer survivors and their caregivers will take the celebratory first lap at the annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Fayette County event on Saturday, June 15, at Oelwein Husky Stadium. The survivors lap begins at 2 p.m. Anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers are encouraged to join the celebration.

Relay For Life is a family-friendly fundraiser and the entire community is invited to attend. This year’s theme is: “Wizard of Oz — There’s No Place Like Hope” and the Honorary Survivor is John Amick of Oelwein who will be speaking during opening ceremonies.

Food, games, themed laps, music, raffle and silent auction, and luminaria-lined field with closing ceremonies from 9:30-10 p.m. are featured.
