FAYETTE — The No. 19 Peacock wrestling team placed third at the NCAA Super Region V Tournament in Moorhead, MN, on Saturday. Upper Iowa claimed four runners-up and a pair of fourth place finishes to fuel their 75 points on the day.

The quartet of Peacocks to finish second in their respective weight classes all earned berths to the NCAA Division II Championships in Cleveland, Ohio on Mar. 8-9. The four Peacocks include Maleek Williams (125), Justin Fol-ley (133), Brock Benitz (165) and Nick Baumler (197). Ryan Schmalen (141) and Triston Westerlund (285) both wrestled in a third place match with the opportunity to push UIU’s national qualifier count higher, but came up just shy of punching their ticket.

No. 1 St. Cloud State University won the team title with 161 points and qualified nine for the national champi-onships and claimed eight region titles on Saturday. No. 17 Minnesota State University, Mankato claimed second with 86 points qualifying three wrestlers for the championships in two weeks.
