Union at V-S Football

Action from a Week 7 matchup between V-S and Union. All six players shown made an All-District team in #7 CJ Rickels (2nd team), #59 Grant Ries (1st team), and #66 Isaac Wiley (1st team) for the Vikings, along with #61 Rashawn Williams (1st team), #63 Carter Spore (Academic), and #35 Kaleb Roach (1st team) for the Knights during the season.

Benton leads local pack with 13 selections, while Union (11) and V-S (7) follow close behind

The local competition on the football field may have ceased for the 2018 campaign. However, that was not the case for individual players after laying it on the line all season for their teammates, as in turn, some were recognized for their efforts on the Class 2A All-District (7) teams.

In total, Vinton-Shellsburg (7), Benton (13), and Union (11) combined for 31 selections. This number is extremely impressive considering many called it one of the toughest Class 2A Districts in all of Iowa with the Bobcats (9-2, 4-1), the Knights (6-4, 4-1), and the Trojans of West Marshall (7-3, 4-1) all earning a share of the District title with one loss (Union beat Benton, Benton beat West Marshall, and West Marshall beat Union) and a spot in the playoffs.

Beginning first with Vinton-Shellsburg, followed by Benton and Union, the players will be listed in their respective teams with a few statistics from the season.
