The Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community Board of Directors on Tuesday announced Debra Schroeder, current president and CEO, has notified the board of her plans to retire, after 24 years of service, by the end of 2019.

“Deb has been committed to fulfilling the mission and enhancing the vision of Bartels’ future, and she has implemented many changes over the years in staying current and being innovative in the senior care industry,” Pam Brickman, Board Chair said.

The Board will immediately begin its process and provide criteria for selecting a new president and CEO to lead the organization into the future.

“The Board wants to assure the local communities that whomever we select will be properly focused on Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community’s future and mission,” said Brickman.

“The president and CEO is responsible for providing leadership and management for the organization and works closely with the Board to develop Bartels Board of Directors’ strategic vision and goals,” Brickman said. “The new president and CEO will develop and maintain relationships within the local community such that the organization will thrive and continue to be recognized by key constituencies and local leaders as a partner in efforts to make the local community exemplary.”

In addition, Brickman said, the new president and CEO will “develop and maintain collaborations and partnerships with other organizations, government and key health care organizations within Iowa and nationally, and work to maintain recognition of Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community as an exemplary model of innovative care and services on a state, local and national level.”

The Board’s Search Committee includes, Brickman, Steve Egli, Susan Whitson, and Bob Brunkhorst.

Brickman said the Board has selected CliftonLarsonAllen Executive Search, a Minneapolis-based executive search firm to assist the board in their search process. Candidates interested in the position should contact: James.Munn@CLAConnect.com or 206-496-2669.
