The City of Waverly will have a new leader after the first of the year.
With all precincts reporting, former write-in candidate and retired electrician Dean Soash defeated Charles Infelt in the run-off election Tuesday by almost 24 percentage points. Soash earned 1,446 votes, or 61.9 percent, while Infelt earned 888 votes, or 38.01 percent.
There were two write-in votes, for 0.09 percent. The runoff election had a 33.57-percent turnout, or 2,336 votes cast out of 6,958 registered voters.
Soash will officially take over in January once the election is canvased, as late as Monday. Read full details in the Dec. 7 edition of the Waverly Democrat.
