After various donations from generous organizations, companies and local residents, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa – Bremer County is getting ready for their 21st annual Bowl For Kids Sake Fundraiser.

DES MOINES – Wapsie Valley had another big win within its grasp Monday in their Class 2A State Basketball Tournament matchup with fifth-ranked Western Christian. The game looked out of reach for the Warriors as they fell behind by 14 points with 2:42 left in the game, however, Wapsie rallied and pulled within six points three times. Although the Warriors held the Wolfpack scoreless from the field in that final stretch, Western Christian tallied 9-of-12 free throws to garner a 53-46 victory and a halt to Wapsie Valley’s tournament run.
Four athletes from the area were named to the Iowa Newspaper Association 2010 All-State Girls Basketball teams for Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A Tuesday.
The Waverly-Shell Rock sixth-grade volleyball AAU team traveled to Ankeny on Saturday and placed first in their pool. They moved through the championship bracket to place first, beating an Ankeny team in the final.
An emotional coach Bill Cook was a bit overwhelmed after his first undefeated season in 35 years of Go-Hawk girls' basketball.
