ON ASSIGNMENT WITH ANELIA:

Police are asking for help in identifying the person or persons responsible for a shooting that left one man dead in the College Hill area of Cedar Falls.

Cedar Falls police and state troopers squad cars have blocked off access to the 1800 block of Tremont Street where a man was killed earlier in the morning.

Police Chief Jeff Olson said the man was found on the lawn of a residential home next to which in a rental property there was a loud party Sunday night.

Several fire cracker shots were heard in the early morning hours in this tree-lined old neighborhood of Cedar Falls where private homes and residential properties co-exist.

Police were dispatched at 1:36 a.m., according to Cedar Falls Police Capt. Craig Berte.

Norman Carroll Gant, Age 21, of 1725 E. Fourth Street in Waterloo, was found there with life-threatening, gun-shot wounds. He was transported to Sartori Hospital, where he died.

Chief Olson said the shooter has not been arrested. He added that a deadly shooting wis highly unusual for this area.

In a press release, Capt. Berte said that the public is not at risk.
