A local church woke up without its pastor on Monday morning.

The Rev. Marvin Talamantez, senior pastor at Waverly’s Open Bible Church, resigned unexpectedly on Sunday, Bruce Pfadenhauer, regional executive director of the Central Region of Open Bible Churches, confirmed to Waverly Newspapers on Monday afternoon.

In an email message to the paper, Pfadenhauer said that the Des Moines-based denomination was going to work directly “with local church leadership in the process of searching for a new senior pastor and leading the church through this transition.”

No reason was given for the abrupt resignation. A call to the church, which is closed on Mondays, resulted in a brief conversation directing further inquiries to Des Moines.
