The Waverly's Horse Sale, one of the biggest in the country and a gem in this small Iowa community, was rescheduled to June 11 and 12 due to the coronavirus pandemic. A virtual option also allowed buyers to have their horses delivered to their homes without having to come in person.

For generations, families and friends from all over the world have descended on this midwestern town to enjoy these majestic animals.

For Hazleton native Rudy Helmuth, one of the members of the Budweiser Clydesdales team, the pandemic shutdown presented an opportunity to indulge in an unplanned visit back home.

The downtown happened to coincide with the rescheduled Waverly Horse sale, hence the 29-year-old attended, prospecting a pony for a horse-loving family out of state.

He reconnected with his brother, Raymond, and Larry and Liz Petersen.

"It is like a family reunion," he said.
