Hello! My name is Marissa Shinstine PT, DPT. I am a doctor of physical therapy who recently joined the Taylor Physical Therapy team at the Waverly Health Center. I am a licensed physical therapist who practices as a generalized practitioner with an emphasis on pediatrics, vestibular conditions, and now scoliosis treatment. I am excited to be a part of such an outstanding team of caregivers and look forward to providing high quality physical therapy services to you and your family.

Having grown up in Tripoli, Iowa, and graduating from Wartburg College in 2014 with a degree in Biology and Leadership, I have a special place in my heart for this community and the surrounding communities. Following college, I attended the University of Colorado, in Denver, to obtain my Doctorate of Physical Therapy. During my time in Colorado, I was able to complete over 6 months of clinical experience as a PT student at Children’s Hospital Colorado where I had the pleasure of working with children of all ages, from babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to high school athletes. My clinical experience includes children with developmental disorders, birth defects, orthopedic conditions, athletic injuries, concussion management, vestibular hypofunction, torticollis, and general pediatric conditions. I was also able to volunteer regularly with children with special needs and adults with Parkinson’s disease resulting in confidence and comfort with these populations.

In the beginning of this year, I was given the opportunity as an employee of Taylor Physical Therapy to pursue a specialization in physical therapy treatment of scoliosis. I completed a 9-day course hosted by the Schroth-Barcelona Institute which included very specialized education regarding scoliosis specific evaluation, examination, and intervention based on each individual’s curve pattern. After completing the course and a comprehensive test, I was certified in scoliosis specific exercise and intervention based on the Schroth method (international method for treatment for scoliosis). I am anxious and excited to provide such a specialized service to northeast Iowa as one of the only two therapist’s in the state of Iowa certified in this treatment approach.

Overall, my goal as a therapist is to positively impact every individual I meet and work together to develop a plan of care that suites your lifestyle. My philosophy stresses the importance of quality of life and my approach is to always focus on the person as a whole rather than solely the injury. Call me at (319) 352-5644, to reach Taylor Physical Therapy at the Waverly Health Center and schedule your appointment today to allow me to assist you in beginning the path towards your goals.
