Mike Jensen, a Waverly dad and a former Wartburg music professor, has gone missing from a nursing home in Waterloo. He has been gone since around 10 p.m. July 6, his family says.

He suffers from dementia, caused by a brain tumor. He is 5'10', weighs about 180 pounds, has red hair and blue eyes. His speech may appear slurred because of his condition, so the family is asking for patience in communicating with him. He knows his name, and is likely to ask for Jen, Allie, Aria or Mimi, and in his mind, he is determined to "go home."

Two of his daughters, Allie and Aria, sat down with me in Waverly on July 7, at a friend's home to spread the word about his situation and plan for ways to continue the search. The girls had been up all night, looking for him.

Their mom, Jen, has been placing flyers and talking to friends in hopes of spreading the word.

Call 911 if you see Mike. Authorities are also asking people to look in their garages as he may have sought shelter there. He is from Independence so he may have headed there or be anywhere in northeast Iowa.
